Heather selected this Lizzie McGuire trademarked Simplicity from a box of her patterns. The headbands captured her attention. I thought the top was an age appropriate and stylish design for the young ladies.
Pattern Description: Girls' knit top, dress, pants, and headband.
Sizing: Girls' 8-16. I sewed an "8" for my daughter.
Here's Heather and Snowy the leopard.
Process:
* Staystitch the neckline
* Sew the front and back pieces at the shoulders and sides.
* Ease stitch the sleeve caps and sew the sleeve seams.
* Attach the sleeves to the armscyes
* Gather the front and back of the neckline between the notches
* Prepare the neckband by stitching the front pieces to the back piece.
* Fold the neckband in half lengthwise,
* Attach the neckband to the neckline aligning at common notches
* Sew the center back seam of the hip band , fold the band in half lengthwise, and attach to the lower edge of the top while aligning the notches/
Likes
* Cap sleeves, cross-over "V" neckline, and hip band
* Stylish and age-appropriate designs for the girls.
Not-so-favorite Features
* The neckline was inappropriately low
Modifications
* Self-drafted and cut an inset (modesty panel) as a rectangular piece with sufficient length to be attached on the inside of the top from one seam edge to another above the "V" portion. I folded the rectangle in half along the crosswise grain right sides together, sewed its side seams, turned it inside out, and and placed the completed inset on the inside so that it is above the "V" point and allows sufficient coverage of the neckline area.
* Instead of gathering the center front of the headband, I folded the headband once more lengthwise to reduce the width and sealed the opening with small zig-zag stitches
Heather wore her new top and headband to school and was still wearing them when I arrived home from work!
